Yoga in Schools - Washington DC Metro Area

Bringing Movement, Mindfulness, and Connection to the Classroom

Yoga helps students learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress, and connecting to their bodies in a loving way while having fun and building fitness.  Classes include movement, breath, relaxation, character development, and social emotional Skills. As the physical, mental, and social-emotional benefits of yoga for children become more broadly understood, the demand for yoga in the school setting is growing.

Customized After-School Yoga Programs

Breathing Space is pleased to offer after-school classes at several neighborhood schools. We are vetted through the DCPS Out-of-School-Time office as an aftercare provider, so we can set up classes at schools directly. However, we are also happy to work through your school's primary afterschool program provider to offer enrichment options.

Breathing Space after-school classes incorporate age-appropriate poses, movement, breathing, games, and relaxation. Classes often revolve around a philosophical or natural theme, sometimes including books, art, or other creative activities to explore a theme, and always including some form of quiet relaxation.

Breathing Space has offered weekly or occasional classes at a variety of schools, preschools, and daycares in the DC area.

Sometimes, we offer classes in conjunction with physical education or another special subject, with a 45-to 60-minute lesson in a multipurpose room or other open space. Other times, we offer shorter lessons right in the classroom. We are happy to work with schools to design a program to meet their unique needs.

Yoga is designed to be practiced regularly, so we offer discounts for schools willing to engage in a year-long contract. We are happy to work with your school to develop a custom arrangement.

Classes can be customized for lots of different organizations and learning needs. If you have a group and an appropriate venue, we can set up an occasional or recurring class – monthly, weekly, or daily.

Are you a parent looking for registration at a school where we are currently offering classes?

What Our Schools Say

Breathing Space instructors add to the morale of your school in a positive uplifting manner. They are in constant communication which makes for a smooth process. They are super flexible and provide nothing but the best. – public charter school aftercare program director

This was a wonderful program and we heard from many students how much they enjoyed yoga. Our younger students especially were drawn to the classes, and it can be hard to find rewarding extracurriculars at that age. - private preschool director
