Why Breathing Space Kids Yoga Camp?

Breathing Space summer camp in Washington DC provides children with a fun, creative, educational, and enriching experience through yoga movement classes, mindfulness activities, relaxation, games, crafts, field trips, and outdoor time.

Each week-long camp is sure to create lasting memories, new friendships, and a foundation for health and well-being!

Yoga and mindfulness can help children build self-regulatory skills, resilience, social awareness, and confidence, as well as gross-motor skills, strength, and fitness. Through yoga, children learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress, and connecting to their bodies in a loving way while having fun.

Breathing Space Kids Yoga Camp takes the lessons we learn in our yoga and mindfulness practice and expands them to a full week of activities.  Of course, we do lots of yoga and yoga games, but that’s not all:

  • We’ll do arts and crafts or themed activities every day.
  • We visit neighborhood playgrounds and water features and have out-of-studio/church time every day.
  • We typically do at least one theme-based outing to a special location like a museum or educational site for every weeklong camp. We travel by foot or bus/metro.
  • Unless the weather is terrible, we’ll hold lunch and free play outdoors daily.
  • We will have some form of quiet relaxation time every day.
  • We work a lot of free-play time into our camp between organized activities as well.

About Aftercare

We are excited to announce that Labyrinth Games & Puzzles will be partnering with us again to offer Games Club after camp this summer at St. Mark's.  Studio campers are welcome to sign up for aftercare, and a counselor will walk them over to the church after day activities in the studio conclude – 5:30 pm pickup is only at St. Mark's.

We initially open the same number of aftercare seats as we enroll campers each week; however, after Memorial Day, we finalize staffing, and late additions may be limited. The exception is waitlisted campers. We ALWAYS make aftercare space for campers enrolling off the waitlist if they need it.  Please do not enroll in aftercare if you are not enrolled in camp yet.

Summer Camp Group Sizes

Our camps are more intimate than many. Most St. Mark's Church camp weeks are capped at 16-30 (for larger groups, we run most activities in smaller sub-groups). Camps maintain a roughly 6:1 camper-to-staff ratio. Our campers and counselors get to know each other and make lasting friendships.

Note that registration groups are not "classes" and are simply designed to ensure an appropriate age distribution. All campers at a single location are treated as a single group. We may break into smaller groups for art and yoga (and occasionally outings), but campers will spend most of the day together.

Summer 2026 Grade Ranges

All weeks of Yoga Camp are open to rising K-4th.  Please note camper grade ranges. All summer camp grade ranges refer to Fall 2026 grades.

Rising PK4

We have five weeks of camp – July 6, 13, 27, Aug 3, 10 – open to rising PK4, who are 4 years old by Sept 30 and meet our camp readiness requirements.

With pre-approval, we also allow a very limited number of rising PK4 younger siblings who have experience with Breathing Space classes to attend weeks open to K-4th graders. See FAQs for our age policies, including younger sibling enrollment. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate rising PK3 students.

Special Camp Weeks for 3rd-5th Graders

We are offering 3 weeks of summer camps for rising 3rd-5th graders at our Eastern Market studio. We recognize that older-elementary and rising middle school students don't always want to hang out with 5- and 6-year-olds, and these camps give them an opportunity to explore more complex asana, age-appropriate games, and more involved craft activities that we can do with younger students. Rising 5th campers may wish to be CITS and have their own camp weeks.

Yoga Trapeze Camp for 4th-6th Grade

In addition to traditional postures, breathwork, relaxation, and arts & crafts, Yoga Trapeze Camp incorporates YogaBody-style sling activities. Yoga trapeze practice builds strength and fitness and can also enhance confidence, support risk-taking and decision-making skills, and reduce stress. Learn more about Yoga Trapeze classes.

Counselors in Training: 5th-8th Gr

Rising 5th-8th graders are invited to apply to serve as a counselor-in-training with our St. Mark's or TOTH groups. CITs are campers enrolled at half price who participate in all activities, help counselors prepare activities, and help manage younger campers. We prioritize previous yoga campers, especially for rising-5th-grade applicants. Learn more.

What Our Families Say

We've done classes and camps since my kids were infants. My kids love the multiple activities that they do at camp . . . and they are exhausted when they come home at night.  Jen and all the staff are incredibly caring and fun. It's a great place to send my kids knowing they are in good hands and doing activities that help them learn and grow and stretch their bodies. We enjoy it a ton.

I like my daughter being active, having fun with her friends, and she comes home and teaches me yoga poses.  The people here are awesome and loving and they teach my daughter great things. They always seem to have fun activities planned for her even on days when she thinks there is nothing left to do on earth.
